ExcludedUK Real Life

The people behind the stories of the ExcludedUK Community.

On Armed Forces Day 2020, we speak to Cheryl who served 22 years for the British Army before retiring to civilian life and setting up a pet sitting business. She has been 10 years self employed and also claiming her army pension. In the wake of Covid, she is excluded from SEISS because her army pension is just over the £10k mark whilst her pet sitting business brings in just under the £10k mark, meaning that under the so-called 50/50 rule she is entitled to claim £0. If she had never served in the Army she would been able to recover 80% of her pet sitting business income with no questions asked. Cheryl's disappointment at her treatment and exclusion is palpable - a very moving episode and thank you to Cheryl for sharing so openly.
